The Tragic Pearl
Pearling Yesterday and Today | Broome History
Lifted from the bed of the Indian Ocean outside La Grange Bay, North West Australia, one Saturday in August, 1905, the great pearl that figures in this story was pronounced by the few that saw it to be worth a king's ransom. Within forty-eight hours, however, it was stolen, and thereafter passed rapidly through the hands of thief after thief. Stranger still, it brought death to four men who never set eyes on it.
